Outdoor family photoshoot in Herne Hill, South-East London

Today's blog features a family photoshoot in Brockwell Park, nestled between Herne Hill, West Dulwich, and Brixton.

I had the pleasure of photographing a local family of four during a leisurely walk in Brockwell Park (Herne Hill), accompanied by their two lively Golden Doodles, who happen to be brothers. One of the great aspects of documentary family photoshoots is that pets are more than welcome - they're a part of the family, after all.

The little girl was donning pink sequin trousers and doing cartwheels throughout the entire session. This added a spark to the photos, especially in the crisp Autumn light.

When the sun hangs low, marking the beginning of the golden hour, it's tempting to capture the photos with the sun behind, to create a radiant halo and a nostalgic feel. However, this type of light also gives a dramatic, high-contrast look to the photos, which I love.

Father and son shared a delightful time playing football together, crafting a typical family afternoon filled with sports and shared, ordinary moments.

A documentary family photoshoot is all about capturing real moments. No posing, just genuine everyday family life. This session also provided opportunities for natural, unposed portraits of the children and the whole family, including the dogs, walking together.

My photoshoots take place at your home or at a location that holds special meaning to you, such as a local park. When my children were younger, I spent a significant amount of time with them at the park, strolling around or at the local playground. These are all moments worth preserving.

I am a family photographer based in Dulwich, primarily serving East Dulwich, Herne Hill, and Peckham, but I'm available to travel across London and beyond. Get in touch if you’re interest in booking a session with me.
