  • You have the fancy camera. Now what?

You invested in fancy gear to capture your family moments. The photographs come out fast and sharp, but they don't always match your vision. Quickly, you realise that both you and your camera are capable of so much more. However, you find yourself lacking the time to sift through hours of YouTube videos that don’t get to the point or feeling hesitant to invest in a generic photography course. If this sounds like you, then THIS IS FOR YOU.

  • Skip the guesswork: a bespoke course to boost your skills, quicker

It took me years, countless hours, and a significant investment in online courses, seminars, webinars, workshops, books, memberships – you name it – to become confident with my camera and truly happy with my family photos. However, nothing provided more lasting value than the time and resources I invested in mentors who genuinely cared about my growth and provided tailored support. That’s why I am a strong advocate for bespoke 1-to-1 learning. This intensive course, simple yet highly effective, is TAILORED TO YOU, providing all the fundamental tools needed to capture beautiful moments with your own family.

  • Invest in your passion and see where it takes you

This program costs less than most professional family photoshoots. While the promise isn't to transform you into a professional photographer, it's designed to equip you with THE FUNDAMENTAL TOOLS needed to capture the kind of photos you might have previously hired a professional for. Also, who knows? With enough practice, enjoyment, and skill development, your initial enthusiasm and passion might evolve into a side-hustle or even a full-blown career. FAQs

Who is this course aimed at?

If you are a parent or carer who is passionate about taking unposed and natural photos of your family and have a decent camera, this course is for you. If you love documenting your family adventures, this course is for you. If you want to learn how to pose your children for ‘perfect’ shots, this course is not for you.

How much do I need to know about photography?

This course is customised to your current level of knowledge, which we will assess through an initial questionnaire. The curriculum will be pitched based on where you are in your photographic journey, ensuring it meets your specific needs. You'll get the most out of this course if you fall within the beginner to intermediate skill level.

What camera do I need to have?

Any digital camera that gives you some control over the settings, such aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity to light. We can take it from there.

What is the time commitment?

You can expect to dedicate approximately 4 to 5 hours throughout the month to this course. This includes a total of 3 hours in scheduled calls with me. Additionally, I'll provide you with two tailored assignments, specifically designed for practice in everyday real-life situations with your own family. While I recommend at least 30 minutes of practice each week, the more you invest in practice, the better the results.

Will I learn how to use Photoshop?

No, the editing segment of the course focuses on fundamental adjustments to enhance family photographs with a natural, real-life look. These adjustments can be made using various software and apps. On this course, I will demonstrate these editing techniques using Adobe Lightroom.

Will I learn how to use flash?

No. This course will help you make good photos with any light available (natural or artificial), but does not cover flash photography.

Why should I learn from you?

As a professional family photographer, I've been recognised among the Top 10 documentary family photographers worldwide and in the UK. With a passion for photography and an extensive background in testing various cameras as a gear enthusiast, I understand the challenges of owning great equipment without maximising its potential for capturing personal family moments. I've been in your shoes, and that's why I've crafted a programme tailored to offer the kind of learning experience I wished for during that time. Join me, and let's unlock the full potential of your camera together.

“"Fran's mentorship and guidance through her “Supercharge your family photos” course has really elevated my approach to capturing special moments through my camera’s lens. I am confident whilst using my phone to take photographs, however after purchasing a camera I was scratching my head at the different functions which ultimately made taking photographs less enjoyable as I wasn’t getting the result I’d hoped for. Fran had done research in to the functions and buttons of my camera so that everything was specific and tailored to me and this level of detail was carried out throughout every aspect of the course. Fran was patient and thorough with her explanations and had created a deck that was just as detailed for me to refer to after our conversation, which meant that I could fully focus on our learning conversations rather than writing my own notes simultaneously. She also recorded our online sessions and sent them back to me - which again, was very helpful as I have found it useful to go back over the conversations, especially when she demonstrated editing (very small edits) photographs. The course has given me a huge confidence boost and given me the tools not only to be able to use my camera with more of an understanding, but also the tools to think before capturing a moment by thinking about (for example) composition and the wider frame - not just my subjects.”

“Last year we bought a fancy camera because we wanted to take better photos of the kids, instead of using our mobile phones. It was frustrating to have such a great camera without utilising it to its full potential, so I worked with Fran to learn the camera and composition techniques that work for me to take the photos I wanted, without asking my two young kids to pose. Fran gave me her full support and advice, as well as friendly critiques, and as a result I’m now confident using my camera and my photos improved massively. To the point that friends have asked me to take photos for them!”
